I can’t believe I actually get to say out-loud that I have truly lost 18 pounds in 6 weeks since I started Keto. I can’t even believe I am currently typing out that sentence. That means you can too. I’ve always been the girl who tried diet after diet, and nothing worked. I wouldn’t have the will power or the motivation or I would get bored of the things I was eating within a couple days of starting. I never thought this day would come, truly, especially when it is such a small part of my much bigger goal. Now I know 18 pounds isn’t that much to some people, and for me its just a small chip away at the bigger block of weight that I am trying to lose. But once you lose an amount that you can see a difference physically, is when it really starts to sink in.

How I Got Here

To give a little back story, in the late summer of 2018, exactly a year ago, I decided I really needed to get my butt in shape. I had hit a low mentally was so unhappy. I woke up one morning and said I don’t want to feel like this anymore. Being heavier both physically AND mentally weighed me down. It was all I could think about. It made every aspect of my life feel “heavy” or just too much. I needed to lose the 60 pounds I had gained in the past 8 years, I wanted to change my mindset to become more positive, I even told myself I was going to buy an entirely new wardrobe and “become the person I know I am.” It was one of the moments I was realized I needed to stop feeling sorry for myself and just do something about it. So I made several small changes, but didn’t reall give it my all. While I was “successful” in the relative term, I truly wasn’t the successful I had planned on being when it came to changing my entire life. Let’s be real, your 20s are some of the hardest, yet most rewarding years when it comes to truly figuring out who you are.

Since last summer, I fluctuated on weight. I’d be really good some months, and maybe lost 12 pounds total over the past year. Then a few months where I’d gain like 6 back. 12 pounds in a year is honestly, nothing to write home about when it came to the kind of success I was striving for. The scale would go back and forth, I was still fitting in the same clothes and not seeing much of a difference. I was making smaller healthier choices, eating less fried food, but still not really making an impact on my actual weight-loss plan. Two months ago, in June, everything about that failed plan changed.

My Support

My sister Alyssa has been talking to me about Keto for the past couple months. She has been doing Keto since winter of last year. She solely has done it to make a lifestyle change, and just ended up loving the changes she was seeing. For example, Alyssa raves about her increased energy, actual inches of fat loss, better sleep…the list went on and on. It actually didn’t take much convincing to get me on the same band wagon. So I decided to dive in head first with all that I already knew.

Truthfully, having my sister there to really have all the research done already, helping me with grocery lists, prepping me for recipes that I would love really made the entire process easier. A lot of my success is due to her support and accountability. Alyssa makes great Keto meals and finds restaurants that offer great Keto options, too. If you don’t already follow her, head over to her Instagram and make sure to give her some love. You won’t be disappointed!

The Success

If I am being honest, the six weeks came and went so fast. I mentioned in my previous post, My First Week on Keto, that I kept my first couple weeks insanely simple. I did not want to make an incredibly drastic change in my diet because it had failed me so many times in the past. Instead I chose to make the same things for dinner, eat similar things out at restaurants, and completely decrease my sugar intake. So instead of drinking a pop, I tried to drink carbonated flavored water to help off-set craving something sweet. I would still eat a juicy burger topped with avocado, egg, mayo, etc…just without the bun. I ate a lot of eggs in different forms too. Breakfast for dinner became a huge staple in my house during those first couple of weeks. Failing wasn’t going to be an option for me this time no matter what it took me to get there.
